Revealed: SS Rajamouli tells what compelled to make Baahubali 2

While everyone is quite excited for Baahubali 2, not many know how the idea of making something this grand struck Rajamouli

Baahubali 2, the most-awaited movie of this year, was a dream the director SS Rajamouli cherished for some 15 years now. Rajamouli’s first installment wowed everyone upon release in 2015 and now all eyes are set on the sequel. The team of the movie said Baahubali 2 is going to be better and bigger. While everyone is quite excited for the movie, not many know how the idea of making something this grand struck Rajamouli.

Speaking to new agency IANS, Rajamouli said he saw a movie in IMAX format around 15 years ago. The director said he was used to seeing movies on the 70mm screens but watching it in IMAX format felt like a larger than life experience. That’s when he decided to make movies in IMAX format and now that he has done it, Rajamouli feels it is a quality moment for him.

Baahubali 2 would be seeing a release wider than any movie. All slated for a release in 6500 screens, Rajamouli said that it was done so to occupy a large number of movie goers. He was quoted as IANS as, “It’s a business model now to release the film in a maximum number of theaters to get maximum viewership. And for a film like Baahubali, where people are anticipating so much about the movie that trailer of the film has crossed 100 million views is on par with any Hollywood film. So, it makes all sense to release the film in maximum number of theaters.”

When asked how such a grand project became possible, Rajamouli credited it to the entire team. He said, “I think whether director or producer or any other professional involved in it, we are all being carried on a big ship called Baahubali. Baahubali is the ultimate product and we are the people who worked on it, so I don’t think I am a bigger person than the project.”

Baahubali 2 boasts an ensemble cast including Prabhas, Rana Daggubati, Anushka Shetty, Tamannah Bhatia and Sathyaraj in pivotal roles.
