Raees box office collection day 12: Shah Rukh Khan-starrer inches towards Rs 300-crore club

Shah Rukh Khan-starrer Raees has raked in a total of Rs 259 crore across the globe

Shah Rukh Khan-starrer Raees is simply unstoppable. While it has been a runaway success in India, the Rahul Dholakia directorial venture has delivered a stupendous performance across the globe. Till now, the gangster flick has netted a whopping Rs 259.42 crore worldwide.

On 4 February, Raees garnered Rs 7 crore. It had earned Rs 26.30 crore on the second day of its release. On its opening day, it had earned Rs 20.42 crore.  The film alleged to be loosely based on the life of yesteryear Gujarat don Abdul Latif has earned accolades from critics and fans alike. The film clashed with Kaabil featuring Hrithik Roshan, which is also going strong. The revenge drama has earned a total of Rs 118.14 crore so far.

Starring Shah Rukh Khan, Raees has the superstar playing the titular role of a bootlegger who rises up to become a dreaded don. The film also stars Nawazuddin Siddiqui who has earned rave reviews for his role of a tough cop. Pakistani actor Mahira Khan makes her Bollywood debut in the flick which also stars Atul Kulkarni and Mohammad Zeeshan Ayyub in pivotal roles. Sunny Leone has made an appearance in the popular Laila song which has earned her a lot of popularity.

The film had raked in a lot of controversies even before it hit the theatres. Mushtaq Sheikh, son of Abdul Latif, had alleged that the film was based on his father’s life. He threatened to file a defamation suit to the tune of Rs 100 crore before the Bombay High Court if the film was released. Besides this, Maharashtra Navnirman Sena also objected to Mahira Khan’s presence in the film. As a result, SRK personally met MNS chief Raj Thackeray and assured that Mahira would not be a part of the film’s promotion.
