5 dead, 30 trapped as under construction building in Kanpur collapses

Kaushal Raj, Kanpur's District Magistrate told , "30 to 40 people are still trapped under. Team of experts will be set for the investigation of the building collapsed."

Five persons killed in Kanpur when an under construction building collapsed in the Jajmau area of the city. Rescue operations are underway by the army, police and fire brigade as several are feared dead.

Kaushal Raj, Kanpur’s District Magistrate told , “30 to 40 people are still trapped under. Army and NDRF have been called. Team of experts will be set for the investigation of the building collapsed in Kanpur’s Jajmau. Rescue operations are underway”.

NDRF has reached the site of the incident in the Jajmau area of Kanpur.

Confirming the deaths, Kanpur’s SSP Akash Kulhari said “Death toll in building collapse that happened in Kanpur’s Jajmau rises to 5.”

As per the sources the building is owned by Samajwadi Party leader Mehtab Alam and some construction work was going on in the building when an explosion happened and the building collapsed. Many nearby houses have too being affected. There were around 100 labourers inside the building when the incident occurred. There are also reports of women and children being trapped under it.
