Assam DSP arrested for making derogatory remarks against woman BJP MLA on Facebook

This is not the first time that Bora has landed in controversy over a social media post

Anjan Bora, a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DySP) of the Assam Police, was on Saturday arrested for his alleged Facebook post making objectionable remarks about a woman BJP MLA. Bora, who is currently posted as a deputy commandant of the 23rd Assam Police Battalion at Manja in Karbi Anglong district, is facing both departmental as well as criminal proceedings for a Facebook post that he posted on Wednesday making certain derogatory remarks against a lady legislator belonging to the ruling BJP.

“Yes, we have written to the government for departmental action, while a case has been registered with the CID against him after we have found him making certain objectionable remarks about a lady legislator on Wednesday,” Assam Police director-general Mukesh Sahay told The Indian Express here on Thursday.

While the Bharatiya Janata Party has two women MLAs in the state Assembly, Bora reportedly also ruled out one of them by her surname, thus pinpointing at one particular legislator without taking her name.

This is not the first time that Bora has landed in controversy over a social media post. Last year, Bora got himself suspended for posting hate speech on his Facebook wall. The cop, who has many followers on the social networking site, had allegedly vowed to put a ban on ‘Azan’, the prayer call, and create a ‘Muslim-free Hindustan’.
