GST to be implemented from July 1, says Finance Minister Arun Jaitley

The government is now poised to implement GST from July 1 provided it got the necessary approval from Parliament.

In the eleventh (Goods and Services Tax) GST Council meet held on March 4, Central GST and Integrated GST law has been cleared. Heading the council meet, the Finance Minister Arun Jaitley told states that the government has accepted all 26 points related to pan-India taxation raised by them.

FM Jaitley said, “Final drafts of CGST and IGST laws were circulated to GST council. Today, laws were put for discussion, GST council approved the laws.”

“Legal committee is giving a finishing touch to drafts of UTGST and SGST laws. Drafts will be put for approval on March 16 in 12th meeting of Council,” Jaitley added.

The government is now poised to implement GST from July 1 provided it got the necessary approval from Parliament, he said. “CGST, IGST and UT-GST law to be taken to Parliament in second-half of Budget session starting March 9,” he said.

The next meet of GST Council is scheduled on March 16.
