After being convicted in disproportionate assets case, Sasikala surrenders in Bengaluru court

The Supreme Court convicted Sasikala in the disproportionate assets case and awarded a 4 years jail term shattering her dreams to be Tamil Nadu CM.

A day after being convicted Sasikala Natarajan on February 14 surrendered before the Bengaluru court. In a massive blow for AIADMK General Secretary Sasikala Natarajan, the Supreme Court convicted her in the disproportionate asset case against her. Additionally, she has also been fined for Rs 10 crore. She was asked to surrender befoe the court immediately.

After the verdict, Sasikala held an emergency meeting at the Golden Bay resort where she had lodged all the MLAs to keep the flock together. AIADMK soon announced that Sasikala has been replaced by Edappadi K Palanisamy as legislative party leader of the party. Meanwhile, AIADMK removed O Panneerselvam from the primary membership of the party.

The Supreme Court has ordered Sasikala to serve rest of her jail sentence of three years and six months as she has already served almost six months in jail. Now that she has been convicted, she will not be qualified to be the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu. Additionally, she would not also be allowed to contest elections for 10 years.

Hailing Supreme Court’s decision oppositon party leader MK stalin said, “After 21 years justice has been done. This would be example to politicians to live corruption-free.” Urging the party MLAs to be united, Panneerslvam said that the unfinished business by late Jayalalithaa will be fulfilled. Sasikala had stayed back in the Golden Bay resort last night after making an emotional appeal to the AIADMK MLAs.

Some of the senior AIADMK leaders have asserted that they will file a review petition while affirming that Panneerselvam is no more a party member. Tamil Nadu politics has been in a chaotic state after O Panneerselvam resigned and made way for Jayalalithaa’s long time aide Sasikala. A tug of war is going on between OPS and Sasikala to claim the throne of Tamil Nadu. Hell broke loose after Panneerselvam openly revolted against Sasikala Natarajan after claiming that he was “forced” to resign by her. However, Sasikala refuted all claims by calling him a “liar” and that he had “betrayed” Amma and the party.
