Mahavir Phogat hits out at Javed Akhtar for calling his daughters 'illiterates'

Mahavir Phogat hits back at Javed Akhtar after he insulted them by terming the wrestlers as illiterate relating to the recent Gurmehar Kaur's case.

Gurmehar Kaur has been making headlines for the past three days. Prominent personalities, sportspersons, politicians have been voicing their opinions regarding the same. This time Mahavir Phogat resorted to Twitter when Bollywood lyricist and scriptwriter tried to insult wrestling fraternity for tweeting against Gurmehar Kaur recently. Akhtar’s tweets seemed to have struck Phogat as sharp needles in the chest as he came back with an emotional and hard-hitting reply.

His daughters Geeta Phogat and Babita Phogat took a stand on the ongoing case, they were trolled heavily by few many people on Twitter, mainly the journalist Rana Ayyub who targeted the Haryanvi sisters.

After Akhtar tweeted, “If a hardly literate player or a wrestler troll a pacifist daughter of a martyr it’s understandable but what’s wrong with some educated folks’. The tweet clearly categorised them as illiterates. Akhtar did not take any names but Mahavir Phogat considered it as an insult to his daughters.

Phogat tweeted twice in Hindi, replying to Akhtar’s tweet on March 1. His first tweet meant that ‘a person who dedicates his life to the motherland is wiser than anyone else’.

His second tweet was ‘Here we spent our lifetime to get our country a gold medal and they do not take a moment to declare them as illeterates’.

He did not start a rant on Twitter but gave a fitting reply to Akhtar, it would be interesting to see whether he replies to Phogat or not. Earlier wrestler Yogeshwar Dutt too voiced his opinion on the matter and shared a video of patriotic movie ‘Lakshya’ on his Twitter account.
