Blow to Australia, Mitchell Starc ruled out of Test series due to fractured foot

There will be no replacement for Starc, with Tasmania's Jackson Bird the reserve fast bowler in the touring party, confirmed Cricket Australia

A day after the ‘Brain Fade’ issue resolved between India and Australia, it would be a big blow to the Australian team as star pacer from the team Mitchell Starc has been ruled out for the rest of the series. There are two more matches left in the series which are scheduled to be played on March 16 and March 25 in Ranchi and Dharamsala respectively. And now when the series is levelled, one of the key players has to return home due to a fractured foot.

The Cricket Australia has confirmed this development and in a press release, it said,”Mitchell Starc felt some pain in his foot during the second Test in Bengaluru which unfortunately had not subsided a few days after the Test as we had hoped

“There will be no replacement has been named for Starc, with Tasmania’s Jackson Bird the reserve fast bowler in the touring party,” said the board via a release. We made the decision to scan his foot in Bangalore this morning and unfortunately it has revealed a stress fracture.”The board has also said that there will be no replacement while the pacer in reserve, Jackson Bird, will be there in the rest of the tour.

“Subsequently, this means Mitchell will be unavailable for the remainder of the Qantas Tour of India and will return home to Australia to start his rehabilitation,” the release further stated. In the past two Test, Mitchell Starc was one of the key bowlers with Steve O’Keefe, Nathan Lyon and Josh Hazlewood who altogether destructed the Indian batting lineup. In the second innings in 2nd Test in Bengaluru, Starc dismissed Ajinkya Rahane and Karun Nair in consecutive deliveries once again to bring Australia back into the game after Pujara and Rahane had shared a century stand. Also being a tail ender batsman, Starc short but yet power-packed batting had also helped the Aussie batting when they required him the most down the order and has scored 118 so far.
