This match holds importance for RPS as they need a win to cement their place in the IPL 2017 playoffs. According to permutations and combinations, their spot in the playoffs is in danger if they lose this match and the next due to the less than ordinary net run rate of -0.060. RPS are to play their next game against Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) who might steal their spot in the finals.
On the other hand, DD are already out of the race for the playoffs and will be playing for pride. They are the surprise element this IPL has had having chased down 200 plus scores two times and disappointing everyone with their lowest scores 66 and 67. Although they are high on spirits after winning the previous game in a thriller of a contest. They are playing at their home ground. One must expect a run fest at the capital as the race to the playoffs gets tense.

RPS have a tough task ahead of the toss as they will have to find a replacement for their star leg-spinner Imran Tahir who has been one of the leading wicket taker of the tournament. Speculations are that Australian leg-spinner Adam Zampa is likely to replace him on the side.
DD have not yet included Ben Hilfenhaus in the playing XI, is there a chance for him or will he go back home without playing a single game in IPL 2017.
