Bengaluru Civic Body Tried To Implement ‘1 Dog Per Flat’ Rule, Tweeple Forced It To Backtrack

BBMP has limited the number of dogs in a single apartment to one, while independent homes can have a maximum of three dogs.

Bengaluru’s civic body, Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP), has invited the ire of locals after it proposed a set of new rules for licensing of pet dogs. BBMP has limited the number of dogs in a single apartment to one, while independent homes can have a maximum of three dogs.

According to this new rule, dog owners also have to obtain a license consisting of a radio collar with an embedded chip. If the dog has no license, the pet parent will be fined a sum of Rs 1000.

The decision didn’t go down well with dog parents. And in no time, tweeps started using #NotWithoutMyDog hashtag to express their opinion against the decision. Also, a change.org petition was started, which has been signed by 13,000 users.

The Bengaluru civic body was reportedly forced to backtrack after the social media uproar.

The BBMP also put out an approved list of breeds for the residents of Bengaluru. The list is same as the Singapore Housing and Development Board. And it doesn’t include any popular breeds like Cocker Spaniel, Golden Retriever, Beagle or the Indian stray.
