Dear Indian dog owners, let’s get one thing straight: Breeds like St Bernard, Malamute and Siberian Husky do not belong either in Delhi or Mumbai.
Over the past decade, dogs like Siberian Huskies and St Bernards have become a favourite among dog owners. Most people buy Huskies and Bernards from breeders just because they look cute. You need to understand that dogs are not mere accessories. Your pets are your family members and deserve as much love and attention as any other person in your family.
Your dog will be a faithful companion for many years, so why not choose one that will be able to thrive in your climate, rather than have one that would suffer in it?
Let’s talk about Siberian Huskies – The Husky and its cousins – the Malamute and the Samoyed – are biologically designed to survive in cold climates and that’s where they are happiest. Husky puppies that cost anywhere from Rs 50,000 – Rs 70,000 are so common now that they are not even an exotic dog breed anymore! The fact that dogs are bought to show off one’s financial status just reflects on the sad state of affairs.

Same is the case with Saint Bernards – The Swiss St Bernards are famously used to locate travelers trapped in snow storms and have very low tolerance for heat. Imagine a dog like this living in Mumbai! Horrible, right?
Here’s the worst part – since they’re unable to adapt to our climate, many of them suffer from health problems and their owners eventually decide to give up on them.
Here’s a word of advice – go for breeds like Labradors, Dachshunds, Pomeranians, Dalmatian or German Shepherds.
