Failure, dejection, and depression cause many students to end their lives. Therefore, to boost optimism among students Padma Shree awardee Avdhash Kaushal organised a ‘failures conclave’ in Dehradun.
According to National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) report, in 2014, 8032 students committed suicide across India. The same report registers failure in examinations as a cause of 1062 deaths.
Avdhash Kaushal, who is the chairperson of Rural Litigation and Entitlement Kendra (RLEK) a non-government organisation, was quoted by Pradesh 18 saying, “Regardless of the number failures, you must always try to explore possibilities and move ahead in life.” Addressing the gathering of students the Padma Shree awardee encouraged the young people and said failure in examination is not the end, possibilities of success and bright future always exist in life.
He cited examples of people who failed in academics but achieved summit of success in life. The example of people who failed academics included Thomas Alva Edison, Bill Gates and Benjamin Franklin.
The conclave was organised to motivate students and curb increasing tendency to commit suicide among student who failed in examinations.
In India, every year, many students commit suicide across the country because of failure in examinations. Family pressure and high expectations are attributed the root cause large number suicides.
Pradesh 18 reported that the activist is keen to organise such conclave in near future and also wished to invite dignitaries from across the world who have achieved success in life.
