'Congressman' Navjot Sidhu files nomination from Amritsar East

"I want the youth of Punjab to walk on the right path. It was important for me to come into the system and fight," said Sidhu.

Two days after joining the Congress, cricketer-turned-politician Navjot Singh Sidhu filed his nomination from Amritsar East seat on Wednesday.

“This time the victory will be of Punjab, Punjabiyat and the people of Punjab,” said Sidhu after filing his nomination.

“I want to tell every Punjabi to vote for Punjab this time and also vote to establish righteousness in the state,” he added.

He also said this was not his personal fight.

“I want the youth of Punjab to walk on the right path. It was important for me to come into the system and fight,” said Sidhu, who quit the BJP last year.

Navjot Singh Sidhu on January 16 formally joined the Congress Party an asserted that he was a born Congressman and was only going back to his roots.

“This is my Ghar wapsi. I am a born Congressman and I have only come back home. This is new innings for me. New team for me. ” said Sidhu while getting inducted in the Congress party. While affirming that he would “bowl” out the Badals governing in the state of Punjab, Sidhu said that we can’t have ostrich mentality and that we can’t ignore the drug menace in the state.

He further urged the Badals to “run” as the people of the state is bracing themselves for a new government.

Meanwhile, Congress state president Captain Amarinder Singh also filed his nomination from Lambi seat.

“I will defeat Badal (Parkash Badal) for sure, I am here to beat him,” Captain Amarinder Singh said after filing the nomination.
