Extending his support to the Peoples’ Resurgence and Justice Alliance (PRJA) formed by Irom Sharmila, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has donated an amount of Rs 50,000 for the upcoming state assembly elections in Manipur. Sharmila’s PRJA faced a massive scarcity of fund and manpower which took them to online crowdfunding to raise funds and campaigning on cycle to reach out to the people.
Kejriwal, after donating funds to Sharmila’s party, took to his twitter handle and appealed others as well to support her efforts. He wrote,”I am donating Rs 50,000 as my small contribution to her and appeal to everyone to support her.”

Known as ‘Iron Lady’ in the state, Human Rights activist Irom Sharmila formed her political party after she ended her 16-year-long hunger strike against AFSPA. Her party holds a mission to end a conflict, corruption and injustice in Manipur. She also has a massive youth support from the state.
PRJA has also become the first regional party in the state which opted for crowdfunding through social media. The idea behind this move was to garner more support and bring transparency in election funding.
News agency PTI has also quoted PRJA’s convener, Erendro Leichonbam as saying,”Online funds are transparent and normally political parties face a backlash because they don’t have transparency in their funds.”
