A few hours later the Akhilesh Yadav announced the list of 191 candidates over 403 assembly seats in Uttar Pradesh, the Vice President of the Samajwadi Party Kironmoy Nanda declared that SP will be contesting the election on 300+ seats and Congress will be given 54 seats only.
While briefing the press on January 20, Nanda told the press personnel that the alliance is not yet declared and is a personal opinion of Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav. He said,”We’ll fight on 300+ seats. The number of seats to be given to Congress is subject to adjustment and discussion after the alliance happens.”
“We are planning to allot 54 seats to Congress or we may give 25-30 more to them after the discussion which is around 80 or so. But it will be cleared only after the alliance is announced officially.”

On the other hand, this clear indication from SP of sparing not even 100 seats for the ally might affect the upcoming handshake between both the parties ahead of the polls. According to a source, who told Inuthdotcom, that if the alliance between both the party breaks then Akhilesh’s list of 403 candidates will be the final one. And if the alliance is intact a new list of candidates with SP-Cong-RLD will be prepared.
The source also added that the SP press conference, in which VP Kironmoy Nanda spoke about the seat allotments, has been done to put Congress under pressure and make them take the offer of 80 seats.
Earlier today, the Samajwadi party announced the list of 191 candidates for the first three phases. The list includes UP CM Akhilesh Yadav’s estranged uncle Shivpal Yadav.
Shivpal is given the seat from Jaswantnagar, it is the constituency that he represents but his son Aditya kept out of it.
Party’s new list saw some changes with the list that Mulayam Singh in the selection of candidates for the poll. Gangster- turned politician Atiq Ahmed could not find a place in the part. Ahmed, was previously given the seat by Mulayam Singh Yadav.
As per the list, Azam Khan’s son Abdullah Azam is given a ticket from Suar in Rampur, Naresh Agrawal’s son Nitin Agarwal given seat from Hardoi.
