Less than a month time is left for the assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh and now the polling process has begun in the state in a full-fledged manner. All total 168 candidates have filed nominations for the first phase of elections scheduled on February 11.
In this phase, 73 seats are at stake for which nominations will be filed on January 24. While the last date to file nominations for the second phase is January 27. Till now, 16 candidates have filed their nominations so far.
Meanwhile, there is only today’s and tomorrow’s time left for filing the nomination for the first phase.
Now, that the election days are not too far, BSP supremo Mayawati has said that her party will start the campaign for polls from February 1 while Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav is all set to initiate the campaign from January 24.
On the other hand, BJP has also announced their candidate list while it is expected from Rahul and Priyanka Gandhi to announce their schedule for poll campaigns.
On January 20, Samajwadi party today announced the list of 191 candidates for the first three phases. The list also includes UP Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav’s estranged uncle Shivpal Yadav.
Shivpal is given the seat from Jaswantnagar, it is the constituency that he represents but his son Aditya kept out of the list.
On January 22, Samajwadi Party and the Congress formally announced their alliance in a press conference ahead of the upcoming Uttar Pradesh elections. Congress leader Raj Babbar asserted that the party hoped the alliance will send out a positive message and that the party will work hard for the development of the state of Uttar Pradesh.
The state polls will have seven phase pollings starting from February 11 and the counting is scheduled on March 11.
