A good career doesn’t matter when it comes to carrying forward the family legacy and passion for doing work for the society, says 29-year-old Aditi Singh who is contesting the Assembly election for the first time from Rae Bareli on a Congress ticket.
Singh is the daughter of Rae Bareli strongman Akhilesh Singh, once a nightmare for the Congress in Gandhi family pocket borough. She is giving a tough fight to BSP candidate Shahbaz Khan.
Akhilesh, who is reportedly suffering from critical illness, has been a five-time MLA – three times on a Congress ticket and one each as a Peace Party and an independent candidate.
A brilliant scholar since childhood, Aditi studied in some of the reputed schools in Mussoorie before pursuing MBA from Duke University in the United States. Despite getting some very lucrative job offers from reputed companies in the USA, she decided to return to India to be with her father.
After returning to her hometown, Aditi took up social work. While speaking to InUth, Aditi said: “I have joined politics not just for the sake of it, but to carry forward my legacy. Like my father, I want to do something for the society.”
“Entry of young and educated people in politics will improve the entire system,” added the 29-year-old.
Notably, real life Robin Hood for supporters and ‘baahubali’ for others, Akhilesh has won the Rae Bareli Sadar Assembly constituency since 1993.
Talking to us about her journey from the USA to Rae Bareli, she said that the “fantastic journey” has had several ups and downs. “People think that just because I am somebody’s daughter, I am contesting the elections. But it isn’t like that. Politics demand a lot of hard work and I have been doing that since past two years. I have been running an NGO, which has done a lot of work for the people, probably the reason that I am receiving such a good response from the public,” said Singh.
On asking her about the reason behind joining the Congress, she says, “The main reason is that I think that the Congress is the most secular party. It is not like the other parties who divide people into the lines of caste and religion.”
“What I want is that people should get out of this caste and religion based politics. For the betterment of the country, these things should end,” she added.

Commenting on the Congress-SP alliance, she says that the alliance is beneficial for both the parties.
“Akhilesh Yadav has really done a lot of development in the state and that’s why people are going to vote for him.”
Rae Bareli is considered as a Congress bastion. Winning election here is more than just adding to a number to Assembly Seats. It’s a matter of prestige here for the grand old party of India.
A debutante in the politics, Aditi seems to be sure of her victory but wants to win by a bigger margin than her father’s.
