As the polling is underway in first phase of the Assembly Elections 2017 for 73 constituencies of Uttar Pradesh on February 11, a 98 year old woman, Sultani has set an example for many by casting her vote at the polling booth in Baghpat’s Chhaprauli area.
High security is in place to ensure smooth voting for the first phase of Uttar Pradesh Assembly Elections.
In a unique bid to encourage women voters, the Election Commission of India (ECI) has asked its officials deployed at polling booths here to give a red rose to all the female voters. “This is for the first time that we have got a rose,” said one of the women voters.
In the first phase of Uttar Pradesh elections 1,17,65,768 women voters will be casting their vote across the state.
On the polling day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to Twitter and urged people to cast their vote and participate in polling.

Earlier, during Goa Assembly Elections 2017, in a unique bid to encourage women voters and to exercise their voting rights in Goa, the authorities had set up several ‘pink’ polling booths across the state.
Also, several first time female voters who casted their ballot came away with more than just an indelible ink stain on their fingers as they were given Teddy bears.
