The Bharatiya Janata Party is forming the government in Uttarakhand, the party had won 56 seats till the last reports came in , whereas, Congress was able to get 11 seats. Chief Minister Harish Rawat, who lost from Haridwar rural and Kichha, two seats on which he was contesting, tendered resignation from the post. In a first major set back for the Bharatiya Janata Party, Ajay Bhatt, the state President and sitting MLA lost Ranikhet seat. Earlier on March 9, Uttarakhand exit polls suggested that it is Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) which would form the government in the state. As per India Today-Axis My India exit poll, the BJP was set to wrest power in Uttarakhand, winning 46-53 seats in the 70-member assembly while the India News-MRC and ABP-Lokniti predicted 38 and 34-42 seats for BJP while 30 and 23-29 seats for Congress respectively. The high-pitched battle was fought mainly between the Bharatiya Janata Party and the Congress. Maximum voting was reported from Haridwar which was Harish Rawat’s constituency — followed by 63 per cent in Uttarkashi.
