A day after the entire Bollywood fraternity congratulated director Karan Johar for becoming a father of twin babies through surrogacy, Maharashtra Samajwadi Party head Abu Azami yet another time made a controversial remark in public and mocked Karan and asked why did he opt this procedure to have babies if he could just get married.
While speaking to the press personnel, Azami said,”Itne bade ho gaye, shaadi nhi kar skte? Koi beemari hai toh adopt kar lo. Surrogacy ka kya naatak hai ye? (He is grown enough to marry someone. If he has any disorder then he should go for adoption. Why this surrogacy?)”

This is not the first time that this political leader from SP, who is also the father-in-law of Bollywood actress Ayesha Takia, has made such a controversial statement in public. Earlier on January 3, a few days after the Bengaluru mass molestation incident took place, Azmi blamed those women who were allegedly harassed on New Year’s eve saying that they have been strayed away from the ‘Indian culture.’ He said,”In this modern era, the more women wear short clothes, the more fashionable, modern and educated they are considered. And this thing is rising up in the country. This is a blot on our culture.”
“If my sister or daughter is wandering around on December 31 with some guy who is not her brother or husband, then I Think this is not acceptable,” he added.
On March 5, Filmmaker Karan Johar has officially announced the birth of his twins, Roohi and Yash adding that they were the “most wonderful additions” to his life. Karan Johar confirmed the news of him becoming a parent of two twins through surrogacy. He stated that it was “emotional yet well thought out decision which I have taken after considering all the responsibilities and duties that come with being a parent. In order to arrive at this decision, I have prepared myself mentally, physically and logistically to ensure that my children get all the unconditional love, care and attention.”
