Babumoshai Bandookbaaz Movie Review: Nawazuddin Siddiqui gets repetitive in this terrible film

Babumoshai Bandookbaaz Movie Review: Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Bidita Bag's crime thriller is a complete bore and will be a wash-out

Babumoshai Bandookbaaz is a film littered with regressive sequences wherein the director has focused on the intimate scenes and not the actual story. The Nawazuddin Siddiqui film is boring right from the beginning and does not have a single moment worth cherishing.

The major issue with Babumoshai Bandookbaaz lies in the script as the film rides on a limited story of two contract killers who end up becoming enemies. A film like this could ideally have been a short film and won a lot of acclaim on the digital platform, but is bound to find no takers in the cinema hall. The director takes far too long to establish the premise and the linear narration tends to bore after a point of time. The paper thin plot aside, one might wonder the reason of making the film as the scenes stop making sense after a while.

The music of Babumoshai Bandookbaaz is ill composed and the singing is even worse. The songs add onto the run time of the film without playing any role in taking the story forward.

The cinematographer, Vishal Vittal kept managed to show the film’s realism by capturing the unexplored locations of Uttar Pradesh. The film has a few quirky one-liners, however, they are disjoined from the screenplay and come across as forced. The background score is unnecessarily loud and rather is a threat to the eardrums.

Talking about the performances, we have seen Nawazuddin Siddiqui in this avatar quite a few times and unfortunately, the actor is now moulding himself into a stereotype, something which he has always strived to veer off. While Nawazuddin has won over the audience with his quirky one-liners in the past, this time around most of them fall flat and that is mainly because his performance this time around doesn’t seem ingenuous. Divya Dutta’s calibre is wasted and her part is pretty inconsequential. Bidita Bag is not given scope to act as all she is required to do is show her skin and perform intimate sequences. Jatin Goswami delivers a fine performance and steals the thunder from Nawazuddin throughout the film. The rest of the supporting cast is just about okay.

To sum up, Babumoshai Bandookbaaz is more of a B Grade film which aims to titillate the single screen audience. However, the content is so pointless that even the sensual scenes wouldn’t hold people from escaping the theatres.
