If a report in Mumbai Mirror is to be believed, Bappi Lahiri is collaborating with Lady Gaga on two songs. Reportedly speaking to the outlet, Lahiri was nonchalant about teaming up with the global pop phenomenon; saying the project was waiting to be green-lit by the end of the year. The veteran music composer best known for his works in the 80s Disco Dancer and Dance Dance – is closing in on a five-decade career in Bollywood.
During the conversation Lahiri even reportedly mentioned that he had collaborated with R&B artist Akon about two months ago, another project that should release soon.
Widely regarded as Hindi cinema’s ‘Disco King’, Lahiri definitely changed things within film music. At a time when most Hindi film music was conceived around a harmonium, Bappida (as he’s fondly known by many) introduced Bollywood to synth and bass elements, most evident in his hit song Jimmy Jimmy. Lahiri has on, more than one occasion, recounted how Michael Jackson complimented him on Jimmy Jimmy.
Recently, Lahiri’s legacy was somewhat revived in Ashim Ahluwalia’s Daddy (2017). The director included a song from 1987’s Dance Dance in his film, got it remixed by Norway-based musician Olenfonken. The updated version of Zindagi Meri Dance Dance really caught on with the youth. Another 2017 film, Badrinath Ki Dulhaniya remixed one of his most popular songs – Tamma Tamma.
According to the Mumbai Mirror report, Lahiri is also working on a few other projects with House artist Jamie Jones and DJ-duo The Martinez Brothers.
