The Baahubali series writer, KV Vijayendra Prasad will script the story for a movie on Rashtriya Swayamsewak Sangh (RSS), the Hindu nationalist group, considered as the parent organisation of the ruling Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP).
The 100-crore film that would be based on the rise and glory of the RSS will, reportedly, be funded by the BJP, as per The News Minute . Further, many top Bollywood actors would be roped in for the movie.
Vijayendra Prasad was in news last month when Sarv Brahman Mahasabha, Rajasthan, created controversy around Kangana Ranaut’s upcoming movie, Manikarnika, based on the life of freedom fighter, Rani Laxmi Bai. Members of the group alleged that the movie has certain inappropriate scenes depicting love affair between Rani Laxmi Bai and a British agent. They demanded to know about the credentials of the writer of the movie, when Vijayendra Prasad refuted their baseless allegations and said:
“No need to worry about it as I have portrayed her in the most respectable way. She is a warrior who fought against the British. She is my favourite woman leader. I have grown up reading about her. So, I will always portray her in an inspirational way.”
Vijayendra Prasad has written scripts for major blockbusters like Baahubali: The Beginning (2015), Baahubali : The Conclusion (2017), Salman Khan-starrer Bajrangi Bhaijaan (2015), Tamil superhit, Mersal (2017) among others. He has also directed the award-winning Telugu movie, Rajanna (2011).
In the current political climate, when RSS-backed BJP is ruling 21 states, it would be interesting to see the kind of response a movie on RSS would evoke at the box office.
