Jacqueline Fernandez and Sidharth Malhotra’s upcoming action comedy, A Gentleman is slated to hit the big screen this week. The theatrical trailer of the Raj and DK directorial received a positive response, however, the music does not supplement the expectations that the trailer created.
The trailer of the film highlights action sequences and sensual scenes between the lead pair, however, the songs released thereafter give out the vibe of yet another routine romantic comedy, which seems to have confused the target audience. While Bandook Meri Laila has worked quite well, the release of other songs have actually created a lot of damage.
As the film is an action-thriller, focusing on action sequences would have been an ideal for the film’s promotions. Sidharth Malhotra has time and again iterated that the action in the film is its USP. However, surprisingly, the same does not reflect in the content that has been released and is meant to promote the film.
The movie will release on approximately 2000 screens in India, mainly targeting the metros. The budget of A Gentleman is around Rs 60 crore (Rs 45 crore + Rs 15 crore) out of which the makers have recovered Rs 35 crore via the sale of satellite, music and digital rights. The producers, Fox Star Studios, would break even at domestic collections of around Rs 50 crore, which shouldn’t be a tough task if the content of A Gentleman finds appreciation.
The opening day biz of the film would be affected by Ganpati celebrations in Maharashtra which is one of the main territories for the film. However, like all multiplex targeted films, the biz of A Gentleman is expected to increase over the weekend.
Box Office Prediction:
- Opening Day: Rs 6.50 crore
- Opening Weekend: Rs 24.50 crore
A Gentleman would be termed a Box Office hit at collections close to Rs 60 crore in India.
