A Gentleman was off to a poor start at the Box Office as the film raked in approximately Rs 4.04 crore on its opening day. The Sidharth Malhotra – Jacqueline Fernandez film was affected by the Ganpati Celebration in Mumbai whereas the tense situation in North India too had a significant impact on the numbers.
The movie was expected to take a respectable opening of around Rs 6 to 7 crore, however fate of the film is already sealed at the Box Office. The biz of A Gentleman would escalate over the weekend, however, it needs to trend better than Mubarakan to merely break even theatrically, which as of now seems impossible as the reports are not very encouraging.
The film has been made on a budget of Rs 60 crore and the producers, Fox Star Studios recovered around Rs 35 crore from sale of satellite, digital and music rights. To sale safe, the lifetime collections of A Gentleman have to fall in the Rs 50 crore range, however as things stand today, that looks difficult.
The film was promoted as yet another routine romantic comedy which has taken a toll on opening at the mass centers. An action film has a definite audience in the mass circuit and it was surprising to see the makers keep action in the film under wraps thereby keeping the masses away.
The second release of the week, Babumoshai Bandookbaaz also took a low opening. The Nawazuddin Siddiqui film has raked in approximately Rs 1.25 crore on its first day. Qaidi Band and Sniff are disasters as the opening day numbers are in the Rs 20 lakh range. Qaidi Band is one of the biggest disaster of all time for Yash Raj Films.

After two decent to good Fridays (TEPK and Bareily Ki Barfi), the industry is back to the struggling days wherein films are just not able to open at the ticket window.
