After being criticised for ignoring Dangal and Airlift in its nominations at the recently concluded IIFA 2017, the event organisers have issued a clarification about it. They have maintained that Aamir Khan starrer Dangal did not send its entry for the awards. The IIFA organisers issued a statement after questions were raised about the credibility of the awards event and censor board chief Pahlaj Nihalani called it an “international farce”.
“So basically, in IIFA, forms are sent to various production houses. They fill those forms up and send it back to us. Those forms are then put out to the industry for voting and from there it becomes a nomination,” reads the official statement.

Andre Timmins, Director of the Wizcraft International said, “Dangal has not sent their entry in. We would love Dangal to be a part of it. I think it’s a movie that’s broken all records. We love Aamir Khan and the two little girls. They did a great job. But unfortunately, they didn’t send their entry in. We feel sad.”
Earlier, Nihalani lashed out at the actors’ nominations of IIFA 2017. Dissing this year’s nominations, he said, “Look at the hypocrisy. They haven’t even nominated Aamir Khan for Dangal and Akshay Kumar for Airlift and Rustom just because they wouldn’t attend their weekend holiday plans masquerading as an awards function.”
In the gala event held in New York, Sonam Kapoor starrer Neerja was given the Best Film. Aniruddha Roy Chowdhury bagged the Best Direction award for Pink, while Shahid Kapoor and Alia Bhatt were lauded as Best Actors for Udta Punjab.
It is to be noted that Dangal performed excellently at the Box Office and created new records for Indian cinema in China.
