Bollywood superstar Akhsay Kumar has always been vocal about his support to the Indian army. The actor continues to provide financial aid to the families of Indian armymen who lay down their lives in line of duty. The latest gesture includes a donation of Rs 1.08 crores to families of 12 jawans of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) who were martyred in the Maoist ambush in Chhattisgarh’s Sukma district on Saturday.
Soon after the incident, the actor approached Amit Lodha, the DIG of Jaisalmer sector north and sought bank accounts of the families of the martyred soldiers expressing his intention to make monetary donation of Rs 9 lakh to each family.
“Akshay himself has been in touch with me and he keeps enquiring about incidents and when I told him about the Sukma incident he immediately told me he would like to contribute and do his bit for the families of the martyred jawans, we are all grateful to him for this kind gesture.” Lodha told Times of India.
“Kumar’s gesture exhibits his patriotism and devotion towards the country in general and CRPF in particular,” the paramilitary force said in a statement.
This is not the first time the Khiladi Kumar have emphasised on the need of providing financial support to kins of the Indian soldiers. On Republic day, the Holiday actor proposed the idea of developing a website or a mobile app, which would allow people to directly contribute and donate money in the bank accounts of the martyr’s family.
In a video message the actor had said, ““It’s my wish that in our country, there is such a website or an app that directly connects families with those who want to help them. A platform where the bank account details of these families are made available almost immediately along with information on how many people were financially dependent on the solider.”
Last year, he said that medals are important for the army men but they also need money. “They are decorated with lot of medals and that is good. But I looked at their faces. The samman was required for them but they need money too. You have to be practical,” said the actor.
