Akshay Kumar explains the connection between construction of toilets and rapes statistics in India

Akshay Kumar, whose upcoming movie Toilet: Ek Prem Katha stresses the importance of construction of toilets, has made a valid point

Akshay Kumar, who never shies away from speaking on important social issues, has done it again. The star has spoken about the alarming rise in rape cases in India and said women safety should be the major concern of the society. Doling out a tip to bring down the rape percentage in the country, Akshay said toilets needed to be made. He said that when women go to defecate in the open, they are targeted by the predators.

The Khiladi of Bollywood expressed this opinion during an interview to a leading daily. Akshay said he read somewhere that open defecation led to the increase in rape cases. He stressed on the need of toilets in every house. “I was reading somewhere, if open defecation stops completely in India, 30 percent of rape cases would come down. Because when they go in the fields and all, men are waiting there. This is what happens. It’s a very serious offence. A very serious thing. But I’ve made the whole story in a funny way. I’ve not made it into a preachy thing.”, Akshay was quoted by the daily.

The not being preachy part was in reference with his upcoming movie Toilet: Ek Prem Katha. Through this satire, Akshay wishes to tell; everyone why toilets are a must. Telling why women go out in the farms for the chores, Akshay said, “They go there and so much of problems happen. 54 percent of India doesn’t have toilets. They all go in the fields. Not that they don’t have the money or government is not giving them. The government makes it for them but the whole belief is that they would defecate outside and feel more contempt. That’s the most stupidest thing I’ve ever heard but that is the belief they have. And in that, women go through a lot. That is why I felt like making this film.”
