Akshay Kumar and Sidharth Malhotra came together for Brothers that got released in 2015. While the film could not do well at the Box Office, their performances gained a lot of appreciation. Now, after rocking the ticket window with his last release, Toilet: Ek Prem Katha, Akshay wants people to hit theatres for Sidharth’s upcoming film.
The actor has released an Instagram video where he is asking people to give love to A Gentleman, which features Sidharth and Jacqueline Fernandez in the lead. In the video, Akshay can be seen standing outside a toilet with ‘Gentlemen’ written over its door. As he asks the viewers to watch A Gentleman, the door of the loo opens and a transgender woman comes out. She then asks the actor to step aside and give her way if he is ‘a gentleman.’ A surprised Akshay moves aside but says ‘Ye log bhi?’ (even these people can use the toilet?). Watch the clip here:

Now, while it seems like a normal promotional clip that most stars upload generously before film releases, a closer look would reveal how insensitive Akshay’s comment was. Akshay being surprised over a transgender woman using a men’s loo instantly nullifies the purpose that his recently released film wants to serve. One instantly questions as to why should we be surprised if transgender men and women use the washroom to serve the purpose for which it was built?
The actor has garnered praise for contributing to so many social causes, both on screen and off the screen. However, seeing him behave insensitively towards a particular section of society seems quite odd and puts his other efforts into a questionable limelight. Hope he will take notice and educate himself!
