Amitabh Bachchan speaks on the Triple Talaq verdict and how KBC is empowering girls all over

The Supreme Court set aside the practice of triple talaq among Muslims, deeming it unconstitutional

Amitabh Bachchan will be hosting the ninth season of Kaun Banega Crorepati that goes on air from August 28. The veteran actor has been associated with the popular quiz show for the past 17 years, and hosted eight out of nine seasons. Big B expressed his views on the Supreme Court’s decision to bring down the practice of instant triple talaq.

“The judgement speaks for itself and we can’t argue with the law of our country,” the 75-year-old actor spoke at the press conference during the launch event of KBC 9 in Mumbai. He also expressed his concern over the restrictions women face in the society.

“On the show, I get to know stories about young girls, who face resistance at home to study further or work. Like there was this girl, whose father wanted her to just get married, and then she earned Rs 25 lakh on the show and she went back to her father and showed him the cheque. So, it is inspiring to see such girls. I did a film, Pink, where we showed how girls defy norms imposed on them by the society,” The Indian Express quoted him as saying. Bachchan won laurels for his role of a progressive lawyer in Taapsee Pannu and Kirti Kulhari-starrer Pink, that released last year.
