Actress Sumita Sayal passed away at the age of 71 on Sunday, 9 July. The veteran Bengali actress took her last breath at her Kolkata residence at Deshapriyo Park. However, the cause of the death is not clear yet. Apart from her Bengaly film career of over 50 movies, she was know for her role in Amitabh Bachchan and late Rajesh Khanna starer 1971 release Anand.
Sumita has also featured in movies like Guddi (1971), Aashirwad (1968) and Mere Apne (1971). She has also acted in a number of television serials, professional stage and in group theatre with the notable association with Ranga Sabha.
Sumita was born as Manjula Sanyal on October 9, 1945 in Darjeeling. She was married to film editor Subodh Roy and has a son with him.
Chief Minister of West Bengal, Mamata Banerjee offered her condolences to the actress’ family via Twitter. She tweeted
