76-year-old Amitabh Bachchan is all set to make his debut, all over again. Sharing pictures from the sets of Uyarndha Manithan, Bachchan announced his debut in a Tamil film on Twitter. Directed by SJ Suryah, the film sees Bachchan sporting vibhuti and a tika from sandalwood paste on his forehead. However, this is not the first time Bachchan is extending his territories to down South. In fact, he’s had a long and fruitful relationship with directors from South India.
Bachchan hit an interesting partnership with T Rama Rao, where the duo went on to make films like Andha Kanoon and Inquilaab. Bachchan even starred in a double role in K Bhagyaraj’s Aakhree Raasta, and then a triple role in S Ramanathan’s Mahaan. Bachchan completed the superstar trinity, when he starred alongside Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan in 1985’s Geraftaar.
When Bachchan was going through a lean phase in his acting career during the 90s, he starred in films like Indrajeet and Sooryavansham. Both these films saw Bachchan play more than one role, and were usually remakes of Tamil/Kannada movies. Even though Bachchan is only doing his first film in the Tamil language only now, his journey with the filmmakers from down South, has been a long and glorious one.
