Salman Khan and Salim Khan in the past confirmed that they would refund the losses suffered by the distributors of Tubelight. While there were speculations on how the Khan family would take care of the losses, sources have finally confirmed that the distributors would get 50% of the money they lost due to the dismal run of the film at the Box Office.
The film’s pan India distributor, Narendra Hirawat, lost approximately Rs 65 crore from the film and Salman Khan’s team have decided to refund Rs 32.5 crore to Hirawat, there by reducing the distribution loss by a significant margin. The refunding process got delayed as the Khans’ team was constantly negotiating with the distributors to try and to reach common ground.
The all India distribution rights of Tubelight were sold for a humongous sum of Rs 133 crore and were the highest ever for a Bollywood film. The Salman Khan-starrer was expected to set the Box Office on fire and given the high standards previously set by the superstar, Rs 250 crore looked like a cake walk for the film.

However, despite crossing the Rs 100 crore mark, the film turned to be a major loss-maker as the distributors had acquired the film for a high price. Apart from being critically panned, the viewers too were not impressed by the content of Tubelight, which resulted in a very poor word of mouth. The film ended up being the biggest flop for Salman Khan since 2010.
Khan is currently in Abu Dhabi shooting for Tiger Zinda Hai. The film is a sequel to 2012 blockbuster, Ek Tha Tiger and is the most anticipated film of 2017. The espionage thriller, directed by Ali Abbas Zafar, is slated to hit the big screen on December 22.
Shah Rukh Khan’s recent release, Jab Harry Met Sejal too has turned out to be a major loss maker for the distributors, who expect losses of around 35 to 37 crore from the film. SRK in the past refunded the money lost by distributors of Dilwale, however, it would be interesting to see if he repeats the noble gesture for Jab Harry Met Sejal as well.
