Bollywood celebs share pictures, videos of alarming state of pollution in Delhi

The deteriorating quality of air in North India has led Indian Medical Association (IMA) to declared the situation a "public health emergency."

Delhi and other parts of North India have currently turned into a suffocating smoke chamber, making people vulnerable to respiratory diseases. Breathing has become devastatingly difficult for not just asthma patients and children but also for otherwise healthy people. The Indian Medical Association (IMA) has declared the situation a “public health emergency.” The pollution level in Delhi is 30 times higher than World Health Organization’s safe level. In simple terms, it is as good as smoking 50 cigarettes a day.

Bollywood celebrities too expressed their concern about this hazardous situation. While Varun Dhawan and Arjun Kapoor shared videos of the lethal blanket of smog, Parineet Chopra, who was shotting in the city said that her head hurt because of the pollution.

A dense fog covered the national capital on Wednesday, November 8, with the minimum temperature recorded at 14 degrees Celsius, an average for the season. Visibility stood at 300 meters. Following the hazardous situation in Delhi, schools have been ordered to stay shut till Sunday. The dense smog has led residents to use scarf or masks to cover their mouths. Deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia advised people to avoid morning walks and stay indoors instead.

To cope up with the dreadful situation, a Supreme Court-appointed panel has suggested measures like reducing metro fares and increasing parking charges to ensure the number of cars on the roads is reduced.
