Daddy Box Office Day 1: Arjun Rampal’s gangster drama opens dull

Arjun Rampal's Daddy is based on the life of Arun Gawli, a real-life Mumbai don who later turned into a politician

Arjun Rampal’s much-awaited gangster drama Daddy has finally hit the theatres and has collected Rs 1.30 crores on its first day at the Box Office. The film opened on a dull note. This Ashim Ahluwali directorial did not live up to the expectation of fans. However, Arjun essaying the role of gangster Arun Gawli, has earned accolades from all corners. It is being said that Daddy is by far Arjun’s best performance on silver screen.

Daddy, based on the life of Arun Gawli, a real-life Mumbai don who later turned into a politician, managed to fare well in Maharashtra. But did not do too well outside the state.

Daddy traces the life of Arun Gulab Gawli, one of the most notorious gangsters of Mumbai underworld who went on to wield immense political clout in the southern part of Maximum City. The story takes us into several flashbacks where we see an investigating cop Vijayakar (Nishikant Kamat) conversing with an old lady, a sex worker, Gawli’s wife giving insights into Gawli’s life.

We too had earlier predicted that the movie stands a very little chance to emerge as a hit at the Box Office and rather, the chances of it failing miserably are high. The opening day collections of Daddy was expected to be around Rs 80 Lakh to Rs 1.20 crore, and the lifetime collections in all possibility would end up below the Rs 10 crore mark.

Film critic Taran Adarsh had earlier tweeted that

This Friday is no exception… #PosterBoys, #Daddy, other new films start slow… Here’s hoping there’s a +ve turnaround before day ends.
