After breaking all the Box Office records in India, Aamir Khan’s Dangal is on a record-breaking spree in China as well. with its collections, the film has become the highest grosser Bollywood film in China and has also left Hollywood film Guardians of The Galaxy Vol. 2 far behind at the Box Office.
In week two of its release, Aamir Khan’s film did a business of $ 6.40 million on Friday, $ 13.97 million on Saturday, $ 12.72 million on Sunday, $ 4.86 million on Monday and $ 4.92 million on Tuesday, minting a total of $ 65.13 million which is approx Rs 450.39 crore so far.
Dangal, a story of a wrestler who trains his daughters to become world champions in wrestling, released in China as Shuai Jiao Baba, which means Let’s Wrestle, Dad, on May 5. The movie released in around 7,000 screens. In the past, Aamir’s 3 Idiots and PK did well in China. In fact, PK was the first Bollywood film to mint over Rs 100 crore in China — and it had done so in 16 days back in 2015.
An Aamir Khan Productions’ spokesperson told IANS: “The entire team of Dangal is thrilled with the love and affection the film has got from audiences across China. The team is also overwhelmed with the outpour of emotion on the public platforms and in the media for the film. We would like to thank our partners in China for their efforts in making ‘Dangal’ accessible to cinema lovers across China.”
Dangal had also resonated well with the Indian audience, generating over Rs 385 crore ticket sales upon its release in India. Just a month before the movie’s release in China, Aamir and director Nitesh Tiwari were there to promote the film, which officially opened this year’s edition of the Beijing International Film Festival.
Well, after seeing such response it won’t be wrong to say that Dangal is here to stay and the Rs 500 crore mark is not that far away.
