Aamir Khan starrer Dangal continues to shatter several records worldwide. Recently, the film based on the life of wrestling coach Mahavir Singh Phogat received praises from none other than Chinese President Xi Jinping. Now, the Nitesh Tiwari directorial has notched another milestone worldwide. It has edged past Johnny Depp’s Alice Through The Looking Glass to emerge as the 30th biggest hit of 2016 across the world. It has earned a whopping USD 301 million (Rs 1936 crore) as compared to USD 299.50 million (Rs 1,926 crore) raked in by the Hollywood hit.
Trade analyst Ramesh Bala said announced the same and wrote on Twitter,”#Dangal with $301 M replaces #AliceThroughTheLookingGlass ‘s $299.5 M to become 2016 ‘s No. 30th movie and enters Top 30 2016 WW BO Club!”
It should be noted that the major chunk of profit from Dangal’s business worldwide has come from China. What is exciting though is how much from this collection is Aamir Khan taking back home. If you thought, the actor would take home the colossal amount of money, you’re wrong. The strict regulations in China state that the government will only distribute 25 per cent of the collections to the production houses. According to reports, the production house, UTV Disney will only earn around Rs 300 crore and Aamir will get a certain percentage of the profit.
Dangal was released in China on May 5 in 7000 screens across the country and has earned more than Rs 1,100 crore. It has now become the highest grossing non-Hollywood film there. Most importantly, Chinese president Jinping told Prime Minister Narendra Modi that he liked the sports drama.
