This Republic Day, we will witness an epic clash at the box office. Shah Rukh Khan starrer Raees has been pitted against Hrithik Roshan’s Kaabil. The trade pundits have already started speculating on who among the two will emerge victorious in the box office battle.
Ever since its trailer was unveiled, Raees has created a lot of buzz everywhere. Starring Shah Rukh Khan, the film has the superstar playing a bootlegger along with Mahira Khan, Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Atul Kulkarni in pivotal roles. Plus, the Rahul Dholakia has Laila song featuring Sunny Leone which has garnered more than 40 million views on YouTube. On the contrary, the revenge thriller has Hrithik Roshan and Yami Gautam playing a blind couple who fall in love.
You may consider it as just a typical clash of Bollywood stars on a festive occasion, but this is not the situation. Though Raees is extremely important for Shah Rukh Khan to match up to the success of Aamir Khan’s Dangal, for our ‘Duggu’, Kaabil is a do-or-die film.
The past two years have been miserable for Hrithik, who even at present is grappling with several problems in his personal life. Recuperating from a bitter divorce with Susanne Khan, Hrithik found himself in a tight spot with the controversy surrounding him and Krrish 3 co-star Kangana Ranaut. The two actors apparently started dating, then fell out and ended up slapping legal notices to each other. Well, we are not delving deep into the actors’ personal lives.
Right from his spectacular debut as a boy-next-door Rohit in Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai, Hrithik has earned accolades with versatile roles in his 15-year-long acting career. After initial setbacks, he bounced back with praiseworthy roles in films like Koi Mil Gaya, Lakshya, Krrish and Guzaarish. He commanded a special fan following due to his acting as well as dancing prowess.
However, stars have not been on his side for the past two-three years. After having featured in Zoya Akhtar’s Zindagi Naa Milegi Dobaara in 2011 and Krrish 3 two years later, Hrithik’s outing at the box office has been a forgettable one. After having failed to nail the box office Bang Bang in 2014, his Mohen Jodaro released last year would force him to forget as a dubious history.
With the stake totally in favour of Shah Rukh, who played his elder brother in Karan Johar’s Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham, it is indeed a steep mountain to climb for Hrithik. But Hrithik fans should make their presence felt at the theatres to see their star emerge victorious in this clash of titans.
