A video of Deepika Padukone getting a royal welcome at LAX airport was getting viral. It showed the actress being clicked at the airport by foreign media. But what didn’t seem good was how the photographers were mistaking Deepika for Priyanka Chopra. Both the actresses have put Indian cinema on global map by giving some strong on screen performances in the West.
But, when Deepika was asked to comment on why foreign media commits the same mistake often and call her Priyanka, the actress said that this tendency is ‘racist’ and comes from being ‘ignorant.’ Deepika was talking to a news agency when she said:
“To me it’s racist and ignorant. And as a fellow Indian, you (the media) should also be not very happy about. I think just because people have similar skin tones, doesn’t mean they are same people.”

Deepika who was last seen in Bajirao Mastani before xXx: The Return Cage also targeted media and said that reporters should not just focus on writing articles on such issue, and rather try and educate the foreign media. She said:
“As people in a place of power that the media has, instead of creating a tabloid piece of out it, people should be educating them further.”

This is not the first time Deepika has not been identified by the foreign media. Earlier, during her outing with Tennis star Novac Djokovic, Daily Mail failed to recognise her and called her ‘leggy brunette’. Though, post Indian media criticised the publication, they updated their article and mention ‘Bollywood actress’ while introducing Deepika Padukone.
