Here's how Javed Akhtar responded to Kiren Rijiju over his tweet slamming Gurmehar Kaur

Javed Akhtar has come out in support of Gurmehar Kaur, daughter of martyred Army officer, who was slammed by union minister Kiren Rijiju

Gurmehar Kaur, the daughter of a martyred Army officer, who faced murder and rape threats for her statement on violence, has now pulled out of the ‘Save DU campaign’. Nevertheless, she has been getting overwhelming support from several sections of the society. Now veteran lyricist Javed Akhtar too came out in support of her.

Actually, MoS for Home Kiren Rijiju had taken a jibe at Gurmehar, asking who was ‘polluting’ her mind. “Who’s polluting this young girl’s mind? A strong Arm Force prevents a war. India never attacked anyone but a weak India was always invaded,” the minister had tweeted. Now, the former Rajya Sabha MP gave a befitting reply to Rijiju in a sharp tweet. “I don’t [know} about her but Mr. Minister I know who is polluting your mind .” Did Akhtar actually take an indirect jibe at the top brass of BJP or to say, Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh?

Gurmehar Kaur has openly voiced her support against the violence in Delhi University’s Ramjas College last week wherein activists of Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) clashed with the students. A total of 26 people including nine cops were injured in the clashes. It is no secret that the ABVP activists had a field day during the protest, even allegedly receiving support from some Delhi Police personnel too. Three policemen have been suspended over charges of assault.

The five-time National Award winning lyricist for voicing his opinion on various political and social issues.

Last month, he gave a strong statement on religion and freedom of speech. According to Akhtar, religion is a matter of an individual’s faith. There should be religion, but it should be confined to the museums. Later, Akhtar issued a strong statement on intolerance. He said if the iconic Mahabharata scene from Kundan Shah’s Jaane Bhi Do Yaaron was enacted today, protests would have erupted. He also said that criticism of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s policies are nowadays deemed as anti-national.
