It's good to see how entertaining platforms other than the mainstream cinema are being acknowledged by the coveted award shows like Filmfare

Filmfare is one of the coveted award ceremonies of the film industry and not only our celebs, but people all around the globe wait eagerly for it. The 62nd Filmfare Awards which will be held on January 2017 promises more fun and surprises for the audience. Interestingly, a new category of short films has also been included this time and filmmaker Meghna Gulzar recently announced the name of 43 films, which are shortlisted for the Filmfare Short Film Awards.

Over 1000 entries were received, out of which only 43 made it to the list. The jury for the short films include names like Karan Johar, Vidya Balan, Meghna Gulzar, Gauri Shinde, Zoya Akhtar and Kabir Khan. The name of winners from the five categories – Best Movie Fiction, Best Movie Non-Fiction, Best Actor Male, Best Actor Female and People’s Choice Award will be announced online on January 10, 2017.

Talking about this new addition and giving recognition to short films, Meghna Gulzar in an interview to DNA said:

Sometimes, all you need is a little bit of motivation. Short films are a different kind of art, and being a filmmaker in this space requires enormous talent, squeezing your story into a few minutes instead of hours, and keep it engaging. It will be a unique experience to see these filmmakers walk home with the Black Lady, something that we are only used to associating with mainstream films.

It’s good to see how entertaining platforms other than the mainstream cinema are being acknowledged by the coveted award shows like Filmfare. Actor Shah Rukh Khan will be hosting Filmfare, this year.
