Haraamkhor: Nawazuddin Siddiqui's fee for the movie will both surprise and shock you

Nawazuddin Siddiqui's highly talked about project Haraamkhor released in theatres today finally after being stuck with the censor board for many months

Hailing from a humble background, Nawazuddin Siddiqui has given a new definition to stardom in Bollywood. His latest movie Haraamkhor, that was stuck with the censor board for many months, released today. The movie was given a green signal by Film Certification Appellate Tribunal thus affixing additional hype to it.

In the movie, Nawazuddin plays the role of a married teacher who falls for his student. The role of the student is played by Shweta Tripathi of the Masaan fame. Nawazuddin signed the movie knowing well that such a grey character would get him mixed responses. But he didn’t fret over it much. The GOW star told the makers that if the character would challenge him as an actor,  he would come on board, and he did!

But here is one trivia about the movie which you probably wouldn’t have guessed. Apparently, Nawazuddin took only Re 1 as his advance for the film. The actor told the makers that he would take a share in the profit if there was any, but didn’t take any fee. This is definitely commendable taking into account the cult status that Nawazuddin has built for himself over the years.

Producer Guneet Monga told a leading daily:

Nawaz and everyone on the project worked on minimal money or no money at all. Ours is a passion project and we did everything we could to get the film made. Nawaz loved the script and insisted to work pro bono on the film understanding the limitations of the budget overall. He was sweet to only charge Rupee 1 from us literally as a token of his efforts. His support and work made the film possible!”

Owing to the small budget and the distribution rights, the movie has already raked in profit making the situation a win-win one for Nawazuddin.
