Actor Vinod Khanna, who passed away due to cancer on 27 October has left the entire industry and fans in a turmoil. The actor who was also a sitting MP from Gurdaspur, was loved and respected by one and all. While social media is still abuzz with the fans and colleagues expressing their condolences, there’s an incident that happened a few days before Khanna’s death that will leave you little more emotional.
As reported by a portal, actor Snajay Dutt had come to visit an ailing Vinod Khanna in the hospital last week. Sandeep Singh, the producer of Dutt’s next film — Bhoomi talked to a portal and told that the actor was quite emotional when he saw Khanna on hospital bed. Singh elaborated that the scene in the hospital reminded him of the same situations his former wife, Richa and his father, actor Sunil Dutt had undergone during their last time in the hospital. His statements reads:
“After meeting him for a few minutes, Baba was very quiet. He must have revisited his past again as he had gone through the same with Richa and Nargisji. He hates hospitals and it was traumatic for him to see Vinod Sir so unwell. He later told us that Vinod Sir was his idol, and ‘Dad and he were such close friends…’ It was Dutt saab who brought Vinod sir to Mumbai. He saw him in a disco in Delhi and told Vinod sir’s father that he has to act in films.”
Narrating the whole incident, Sandeep also said that when he and Baba arrived at the hospital, Akshaye Khanna, elder son of Vinod Khanna had come down to receive them. And all because the doctors were not allowing anybody to meet Khanna, they had to take a special permission. In fact, when the Qurbani actor heard that Sanjay had come to pay him a visit, he said “I want to meet my son.” Sandeep explained:
“We were shooting in South Mumbai, Sanju Sir told me before we started the shoot, ‘I want to first go and see my father (Vinod Khanna). I have learned to be a man because of him as he taught me a lot of things.’ When we reached the hospital, Akshaye Khanna came down to receive us. As we entered the room where his family was present, it was like we had entered his home — the entire family was there from his wife Kavitaji, son Saakshi, his brother Pramodji and his sister Shraddha. Akshaye hugged us and asked us to wait while they were asking the doctor for permission to meet Vinod Sir.”
While the vacuum of losing a family member or someone who’s close to the heart can never be filled. We wish both Sanjay and others from the industry could garner strength to deal with the tough time!
RIP Vinod Khanna
