Akshay Kumar on Tuesday met Prime Minister Narendra Modi and informed him about his upcoming film Toilet: Ek Prem Katha, which is focussing on the issue of open defecation. The National Award-winning actor took to Twitter to express his happiness. “Met PM Narendra Modi and got the opportunity to tell him about my upcoming ‘Toilet-Ek Prem Katha’. His smile at just the title made my day,” the actor tweeted a photograph featuring him engrossed in conversation with Modi.
It was earlier said that the film was based on Modi’s Swachh Bharat Abhiyan. But the film’s dialogue writers Siddharth Singh and Garima Wahal told IANS that the movie was conceptualised much before Modi became the PM. The movie delves on the need for toilets for sanitation in the country, and this message is conveyed via a love story. Modi has been campaigning for the need for toilets in every home for better health and sanitation.
Toilet: Ek Prem Katha will clash against Shah Rukh Khan’s untitled project on August 11. The film was slated to release on June 2, but the release date was postponed and will hit the theatres around Independence Day. Akshay has been relentlessly campaigning on the need to build toilets. He even visited Khargone in Madhya Pradesh and dug a toilet along with union minister Narendra Singh Tomar.
Directed by Shree Narayan Singh, the film stars Akshay Kumar, Bhumi Pednekar, Anupam Kher and Sana Khan in lead roles.
