Here’s why Pro-Kannada groups are protesting against the release of Baahubali 2

Pro-Kannada groups have staged a protest against the release of Baahubali 2 and have called for a bandh on April 28 in Bengaluru

Looks like SS Rajamouli’s magnum opus Baahubali 2 have run into trouble as the pro-Kannada groups in Bengaluru have decided to ban the movie in Karnataka. In order to protest against the release of the movie, a number of Kannada groups have called for a day-long bandh in Bengaluru on April 28.

The Kannada organisations have threatened to stall the movie’s release as they are offended with some of the statements by actor Sathyaraj who plays the role of Kattappa in the film during the cauvery row. Kattappa had allegedly called one of the well-known Kannada activist Vatal Nagaraj, ‘a comedy character’ in the year 2008.

Rajamouli has come out to condemn the protest and  asserted that Sathyaraj made the statement 9 years ago and that 30 of his films have released till then which included Baahubali 1 as well adding that it is sad the matter has been brought up after such a long time. He further said that he had worked wthe Sathyaraj for a long time and he didn’t think that he would do something to hurt anyone personally. However, Nagaraj affirmed that

However, Nagaraj affirmed that their ranger was not against the movie but Sathyaraj and that they would allow the screening of Bengaluru if he didn’t extend an apology. “Our dissent is not against the movie Bahubali but against Sathyaraj who had made derogatory comments on Kannadigas and Karnataka leaders. We want him to apologise to the people of Karnataka and only then will we allow the screening. The entire city will be shut from dawn to dusk expressing solidarity with the cause,” Bengaluru Mirror quoted Nagaraj as saying.

Baahubali 2, also starring Prabhas, Rana Daggubati, Tamannaah Bhatia and Anushka Shetty in lead roles, the film is scheduled to release on April 28.
