Actor Irrfan Khan starrer comedy-drama film Hindi Medium has emerged as a “winner” at the box office by collecting Rs 53.60 crore so far. The film’s unique theme had a stiff competition from a typical Bollywood drama. Irrfan’s power-packed performance in the film is making news everywhere.
Released on May 19, Hindi Medium, which also stars Pakistani actress Saba Qamar and Tanu Weds Manu fame actor Deepak Dobriyal, has collected over Rs 12 crores overseas, read a statement on behalf of the makers.
The film has already got tax exemption in Maharashtra, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh and Delhi. Released with Arjun Kapoor and Shraddha Kapoor’s Half Girlfriend, the film received well by film fraternity and audience alike. Despite facing competitions with films like Sachin: A Billion Dreams, Half Girlfriend, Irrfan Khan starrer struck the right cord with the viewers.
Sharing the detailed break-up of the film, trade analyst Taran Adarsh took to Twitter and wrote: “Hindi Medium crosses Rs 50 crore. Emerges a winner.. (Week 3) Friday – Rs 1.76 crore, Saturday – Rs 2.75 crore, Sunday – Rs 3 crore. Total: Rs 53.60 crore”.

Hindi Medium takes a satirical look at the education system, and how a couple runs from pillar to post to ensure their daughter gets into the best English medium school. The film has been directed by Saket Chaudhary. Made on a budget of Rs 22 crore, the has already recovered Rs 15 crore from digital, satellite, music and overseas rights.
On the work front, Irrfan Khan will feature in a film adaptation of the novel Moth Smoke by Pakistan-born author Mohsin Hamid. The film will be helmed by Oscar-winning filmmaker Asif Kapadia. Irrfan, who starred in Kapadia’s The Warrior, will play the lead role in Moth Smoke. Apart from this, he also has Doob: No Bed Of Roses in his kitty.
