Kangana Ranaut had started a debate earlier this year when she called filmmaker Karan Johar the flag bearer of nepotism. Her appearance on Koffee With Karan started conversations about how easy it is for sons of Bollywood stars to establish themselves in the industry but the same isn’t the case for outsiders. While Kangana has been quite vocal about her stand, it seems Karan Johar too wanted to take a jibe at her and used the IIFA 2017 platform for it. What’s more? Varun Dhawan and Saif Ali Khan joined him as well.
It so happened that Varun Dhawan got the award for Best Actor in comic role for his act in Dishoom. When he came on stage, Saif and Karan spoke about the ‘greatness’ of nepotism and did not leave the opportunity to tell each other, this phenomenon was the reason for them being in the industry.
Saif raked up the nepotism issue when he joked that the actor had made it big in the industry because of his father, director David Dhawan. “You are here because of your pappa,” Saif quipped. The trio then shouted, “Nepotism rocks”. Saif and Varun then sang Bole chudiyaan Bole kangana from Johar’s film Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham. But the director quickly reacted, saying, “Kangana nahi bole toh achha hai (It’s good you didn’t say Kangana).”
Now that Karan has taken potshots at Kangana in New York amid over 80,000 Bollywood buffs and a large number of celebrities, we wonder what the Rangoon actress will say on it. A few days ago Karan also took to Twitter to write about nepotism and said how it was overused now.
Dear Nepotism…can you pave the way for skepticism and cynicism….both these words also want to be famous!!!!

The 18th edition of IIFA was a star studded event. After receiving the award, Varun Dhawan danced to superhit songs of his father David Dhawan ‘s directorials. Apart from his, a number of performances including Salman Khan, Katrina Kaif and Alia Bhatt lit up the evening.
