The star-studded IIFA 2017 in New York has finally begun. Salman Khan, Alia Bhatt, Varun Dhawan, Sushant Singh Rajput, Anil Kapoor and Karan Johar are among the bigwigs who have gathered at the gala ceremony. This is the 18th edition of the IIFA Awards and the second time when the annual event is being held at the United States. The 15th IIFA Awards were held at Tampa in 2014 that was hosted by Shahid Kapoor and Farhan Akhtar.
The green carpet of the main event is being hosted by Abish Mathew and Mallika Dua. Earlier, Anil Kapoor became the first celebrity to walk the green carpet. He was visibly miffed with the hosts not being present on time. The IIFA 2017 assumes significance as the edition will witness the debut performance of Alia Bhatt. She has been nominated in the Best Actress category for her role in Abhishek Chaubey’s Udta Punjab. She has been nominated here for the same film. Besides her, Shahid Kapoor, Varun Dhawan and Katrina Kaif will also perform on the stage.
Prior to the main event, the IIFA Rocks concert was held with immense fervour. Academy Award winning composer AR Rahman enthralled the audience with his performance. Besides Rahman, the event witnessed the likes of Diljit Dosanjh, Jonita Gandhi, Neeti Mohan, Benny Dayal and Haricharan Seshadri performing on the stage.
