Salman Khan is enduring a disastrous outing at the Box Office, thanks to his latest release Tubelight. The Kabir Khan directorial has barely managed to cross the Rs 100 crore mark and is actually a dismal performance as per the actor’s benchmark. While the distributors are crestfallen over the kind of response the 1962 Sino-Indian war drama has received at the ticket counters, Akshay Kumar has kickstarted the promotions for his upcoming satirical comedy Toilet: Ek Prem Katha. The film set against the backdrop of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Swacch Bharat Abhiyan, will release on August 11.
In an industry dominated by the Khan triumvirate (Shah Rukh, Salman, Aamir), Akshay has emerged as a bankable actor who has amassed a huge fan following. His success can be gauged from the fact that most of his films in recent years have crossed the Rs 100 crore mark. We thought of comparing both the actors’ performance on the Box Office and the results were not at all surprising. Although the Dabangg Khan is way ahead of Akshay in terms of collections at the cinema halls, you cannot rule out the latter. Here’s a list of top 10 films featuring both the superstars at the domestic Box Office. The data has been compiled from Box Office India.
Akshay’s supporters will be elated to see that his 2016 release Rustom is among the top 5 films. He won his maiden National Award for Best Actor this year. It is another fact that Salman’s films are way ahead in terms of collections at the domestic box office.
Beyond Indian shores
If Salman is Sultan of Box Office in India, he is equally popular beyond the country’s shores as well. Comparatively, Akshay’s films do well overseas but the actor will need a massive money spinner that will outshine the Kick actor. Check out the overseas Box Office performance of 10 films featuring Salman and Akshay (5 each).

Decoding Akshay phenomenon
In recent times, Akshay has been a potent challenger to the hegemony of the Khans. He mostly does 4-5 films in a year, with each venture turning out to be a commercial success. He carefully chooses his roles that are instrumental in his success. For instance, he played an NRI businessman in Airlift, a navy officer in Rustom and a lawyer in Jolly LLB 2. His stardom can be gauged from the fact that Shah Rukh Khan had to prepone the release date of his film Jab Harry Met Sejal by a week. Add to this, Akshay’s image of a patriotic film hero has clicked with the audience.
