Priyanka Chopra, who has been absent from Indian cinema for quite long owing to her Hollywood commitments, might be seen in a biopic directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali. Grapevine is abuzz that Priyanka Chopra will be essaying the role of Punjabi writer-poet Amrita Pritam. Priyanka, who was busy promoting her Hollywood debut film Baywatch is now expected to arrive on Wednesday, to sign her next Bollywood film. According to reports, the Bajirao Mastani actress will be meeting Sanjay Leela Bhansali for the upcoming biopic on Amrita Pritam.
Priyanka is coming to India for a four-day trip to fulfill her work commitments. Though it is being said that Priyanka has been considered from a long time to play the female lead, the male lead for the film has yet to be confirmed. This is not the first time for Priyanka to work in a biopic genre, she earlier amazed her fans with her performance in Omung Kumar directorial Mary Kom. The film was based on the real-life struggle of Indian boxer Mary Kom.
“In all likelihood, Priyanka’s trip will culminate in the project being locked. An official announcement, however, will be made only after the male lead (for the part of legendary poet Sahir Ludhianvi) is cast,” a report in Mid Day quoted a source saying.
Earlier, there were reports that Deepika Padukone and Irrfan Khan will be seen working together for Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s film.
Reportedly titled Gustakhiyaan, the upcoming film will follow Sahir’s relationship with Amrita. To play the male lead, few Bollywood names like Shah Rukh Khan and Abhishek Bachchan has been considered

On the work front, Priyanka was last seen in Bollywood film Bajirao Mastani. Directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, the film also featured Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh. This is not the first time Priyanka will be seen working with Bhansali, they have collaborated earlier for film Goliyon Ki Rasleela Ram-Leela in 2013.
